Sports Massage

Origins
Sports Massage - or Deep Tissue Massage - was specifically devised by adapting the techniques of Swedish Massage to treat sporting injuries and sportsmen and women, both before and after the event, but you do not need to be a sportsman or woman to have one. It doesn't matter if you sit at a desk all day, dig the garden at weekends, or play sport at a high level; if you strain a muscle, the nature of the damage to tissues is the same, no matter how it happened.

Practice
The Sports Massage - or Deep Tissue Massage - techniques have been developed to ensure effective and efficient results are gained from each massage. Sports Massage involves manipulating the soft tissues to give you a deep and invigorating massage treatment for muscular and joint aches and pains, while other techniques are used to help smooth out 'knotted' muscles. You certainly know that you have been massaged after a treatment!

A Sports Massage may involve treating your entire body as part of a training routine, or treating a specific area due to a particular muscle strain or injury. It is also used to help with aches and pains.

Benefits
If you routinely push yourself to physical limits, you can benefit from a Sports Massage. If you are a sportsperson, massage can have an enormous impact on your performance; regular treatments can allow you to train to your full potential and recover to the best of your body's ability.

To ensure that your muscles are properly maintained, you should aim to have a good Sports Massage at least once a month and more frequently pre- or mid-season.

Muscular tension, stress and fatigue can affect all of us, whether we're athletes, DIY fanatics, gardeners, busy housewives, or stressed executives. Following energetic activity, you will have experienced soreness, strain, bruising, tightness, pain or weakness in your muscles. Sports Massage can improve the condition of your muscles and alleviate these symptoms.

Clients often report that they feel a greater sense of tranquility and balance after a treatment.
